XAirReader Privacy Policy
App Name: XAirReader Developer: Bu Lingfeng (Individual Developer) Contact Email: lingfeng.lucky@gmail.com Platforms: iPhone, iPad, Mac Effective Date: August 23, 2026 Last Updated: August 23, 2026
1. Overview
XAirReader is a fully local e-book reader. From day one it has been built on one principle: your reading belongs to you and only you. We (the developer) operate no servers, collect nothing, upload nothing, and cannot see any of your data.
This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information related to you. Please read it carefully before using the app. By downloading, installing, or using XAirReader, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
2. Our Core Commitments
- Zero data collection. We do not collect any personal information, and we do not require you to register or sign in.
- No servers of our own, no third-party reporting. The app never sends your data to the developer’s servers or to any third-party service. It contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or user-tracking SDKs.
- Local first. The books you import, and your reading progress, bookmarks, notes, and all settings are, by default, stored only locally on your device (in the app’s Documents directory and system preference storage).
- We do not track you. The app’s privacy manifest keeps
NSPrivacyTrackingset tofalseandNSPrivacyCollectedDataTypesempty. We perform no user tracking or cross-app profiling of any kind.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect or Process
We do not collect, obtain, store, or share any of the following, including but not limited to:
- Your name, email, phone number, or other identity information;
- The content, titles, reading records, notes, or bookmarks of the books you import;
- Device identifiers, advertising identifiers (IDFA), or location data;
- Usage behavior, taps, session-time analytics;
- Contacts, Photos, Microphone, or Camera data (the app requests none of these permissions).
Because we operate no servers, it is technically impossible for the information above to ever reach us.
4. How Your Content Is Handled
- Books and reading data: The e-book files you select via “Import” (such as TXT, EPUB, Markdown), and the reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, and notes generated from them, are stored locally on your device.
- App settings: Preferences such as theme, font, font size, and line spacing are stored in the system’s local preference storage (UserDefaults), solely to remember your choices.
- File timestamps: The app reads file timestamps for import de-duplication and local file management (privacy manifest API reason
C617.1). This information never leaves your device.
5. iCloud Sync (Optional, Off by Default)
XAirReader offers an optional iCloud sync feature to sync your books, annotations, progress, bookmarks, and preferences across your own Apple devices. Please note:
- Off by default. This feature is disabled unless you deliberately enable it in Settings. When disabled, this channel makes zero requests.
- Apple system services only; invisible to the developer. Sync is powered entirely by Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit private database, iCloud Drive, and Key-Value Store). Data flows only within your own iCloud account, between your own devices, and is stored on Apple’s infrastructure. The developer has no servers, never handles the data, and cannot see anything that is synced.
- Governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Your iCloud data is also subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy and iCloud terms. See https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
- You are in control. You may turn sync off at any time in the app, or manage the data under “Settings → Apple Account → iCloud” on your device.
6. In-App Purchases (Membership)
XAirReader offers in-app purchases (paid membership) through Apple’s StoreKit. Regarding purchases:
- Transactions occur solely between your Apple account and the App Store, and are processed and billed by Apple;
- Purchase receipts are verified locally on your device, with no developer server involved;
- We never receive your payment card number, Apple ID password, or other payment credentials. Apple may process transaction-related information under its own Privacy Policy.
7. Third-Party SDKs and Open-Source Components
- The app contains no third-party SDK with network-reporting capability (no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads, no tracking).
- The open-source components used in the app (such as the reading/rendering engine and fonts) run locally on your device and perform no network reporting. The app’s rendering layer additionally blocks all http/https network requests.
8. Permissions
XAirReader uses as few permissions as possible:
- File access: Used only when you actively choose to “Import” an e-book file, to copy your selected file into the app’s local library.
- The app requests no Location, Contacts, Photos, Microphone, Camera, or Notification permissions.
9. Children’s Privacy
The app collects no user data whatsoever and therefore collects no personal information from children. The app is suitable for users of all ages.
10. Data Security
Because your data lives only on your device (and, if you enable sync, within your own iCloud account), data security is primarily protected by your device and Apple account security mechanisms (such as device passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, and iCloud two-factor authentication). We recommend enabling these protections for your device and Apple account.
11. Your Rights and Data Deletion
- All of your local data is under your control. Uninstalling the app deletes all of the app’s local data on your device.
- You may delete individual books along with their related annotations and progress from within the app.
- If you have enabled iCloud sync, you may delete the app’s iCloud data under “Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.”
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated policy will be published through the app’s distribution channel or in this document, with a revised “Effective Date.” We will highlight material changes prominently. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
